The crows cry ecocide where once birds flew,
Distrust grows thick beneath the alder’s moss,
Swansea Council smiles—what can we do?

They pave the roots, they call the profit “new,”
Our grief dismissed as public gloss and dross—
They stole it from us to sell it to you.

No justice here, just backroom deals and glue,
That binds the lies to every line they cross,

Protecting Kilvey Woodland

Our Last Gathering - Premiered Jun 5, 2024

“Protecting Kilvey Woodland” tells the story of Kilvey Hill—its past, present, and future. The Industrial Revolution left Kilvey Hill barren and toxic, devoid of flora and fauna. Over three generations, the people of Swansea East worked tirelessly to restore the hill, creating a haven for both wildlife and the community.

Since the 1990s, Kilvey Woodland Volunteers and Natural Resources Wales have dedicated themselves to caring for and managing the area. Today, Kilvey Hill is a nationally designated quiet area, cherished as a 'stomping ground' for children over the decades.

However, its future is now under threat from a foreign-owned tourist development. Despite overwhelming opposition—evidenced by a petition, survey, and community consultation by local volunteers—Swansea Council is still pressing ahead with the development. Widespread objections to the disposal of the land are being ignored.

The health and welfare benefits of the woodland to local people are immense, including hiking, dog-walking, bird-watching, horse riding, social prescribing, and regular community events, to name but a few. Kilvey Hill is located in an area of poverty, and the woodland is the only green space where people can enjoy nature. It must be protected for future generations.

Join us in reliving the magic of the Big Day Out on Kilvey Hill, where over 350 people came together to celebrate, advocate, and enjoy the breathtaking natural beauty of one of Swansea's most cherished green spaces. This event wasn't just a gathering; it was a powerful statement against the proposed Skyline Development that threatens to take up 37% of Kilvey Hill's accessible public land.

Discover why 89% of survey respondents oppose turning Kilvey Hill into a mere tourist attraction and why 95% are concerned about the use of public funds for such developments. This hill is not just land; it's the heart of our community, a place for wildlife to thrive, and a space where future generations can learn to cherish the environment.

A massive shoutout to everyone involved, especially our volunteers, without whom this day wouldn't have been possible. Your dedication, care, and hard work are what keep Kilvey Hill special.
